Why Support National Israel? (a.k.a. A Family's Tragic Story)
The following is a family's tragic true story:
Once there was a family who owned some land which had been theirs for generations. Through the centuries, they had always managed to hold onto their estate despite many attempts by others to take it away. One day, however, the mafia came in and attacked the family, killing some. The gangsters bulldozed the family's house, and the survivors went into hiding.
After many years, the family's descendants found out that the land had been acquired by a real estate developer from the mafia. The family members scraped up what money they had and paid the real estate developer, obtaining clear title to some of the land which originally had been stolen from them.
Meanwhile, because the land was desolate, homeless squatters had moved in and were living on the property. When the family returned, the squatters claimed squatter's rights to the property and demanded that the family give up all hope of rebuilding the estate they once had. Undeterred, the family began to build. Time and time again, they were attacked. After one very serious skirmish in which many of the family members were killed, the courts decided that the deed of purchase should be honored, and that the family should have the right to build their estate on their ancient homestead. The squatters were furious and began mounting a campaign to get rid of the family once and for all. The immediate neighbors, who also wanted parts of the property, plotted along with the squatters to evict the family.
But when they executed this campaign, it backfired so badly that the family was not only able to hold onto what they had, they were able to reclaim portions of the property which had fallen into the hands of the neighbors!
For a quarter century, the family lived in relative peace and security through relentless vigilance. They were able to make peace with a few of the neighbors, and they even offered a few times to let the squatters live on the family's land, as long as they obeyed the family's rules.
But that wasn't good enough for the squatters, who would accept nothing less than absolute possession of the property through the family's total destruction. They decided to use a different tactic: they began a smear campaign that reached far and wide. The squatters told everyone who would listen that the family's claim to the property was bogus and that the squatters' claim was equally valid. They painted themselves as poor, humble creatures at the mercy of a barbaric and cruel group who pushed them out of their homes.
The slanderous ruse worked beautifully. Soon, nearly everyone throughout the neighborhood sided with the squatters. Even the children of the judge who ruled in the family's favor are now chiming in with the rest of the neighborhood, pressuring the family to carve up the estate and divide it with the squatters. This family, it seems, stands alone.
If you haven't realized by now, I'm talking about the modern history of Israel. Here are the cast of characters:
The mafia = the Roman Empire
The real estate developer = an amalgam of absentee landlords, both Middle Eastern and European in the late 1800's.
The skirmish = the Holocaust of WWII
The judge/courts = United Nations Partiton Plan at the close of WWII.
The squatters = currently the PLO/The Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Hezbollah
The neighbors = the nations surrounding Israel
The entire neighborhood = the world stage.
The campaign = the events which led up to the Six Day War in 1967.
I'm telling this story because the truth is being obscured in favor of lies which are more politically expedient. I plead with you to read the details of this true story in the book The Case For Israel by Alan Dershowitz. This evidence provides for an airtight, non-partisan, apolitical basis for the support of the Jewish right to the land of Israel apart from the usual religious reasons presented in the Bible and advocated by Zionists. While I agree with the Biblical reasons for supporting Israel politically, I realize they are not enough to satisfy those who do not believe the Bible. This book, however, reveals the historical record which shows a political and humanitarian crisis against the Jewish people at times equal to Darfur, Tibet, Somalia, and Bosnia.
Especially if you are Jewish or Christian, I urge you to support and pray for Israel. If you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, then this is your story.
